First time posting, so hoping some of you can help.
I’ve recently acquired a V reg. 406 2.0i (96000miles).
Car seems to run well (although I’m no expert suspect it may be mis-firing as seems to cough a splutter a bit when idling).
I have driven the car approx. 90 miles on the motorway with no problems at all, however I then hit some traffic and after 3-4 mins crawling along I got the ‘STOP- Engine temp to high’. This would warn for approx. 30 secs then all go quiet, would start up again about 4 mins later. Temp gauge through-out never went above 90oC (kind off assuming temp. works as seems to do whats expected from cold start)
What also happened at similar time was ‘fuel gauge’ and ‘temp gauge’ started to ‘bounce’ (they would drop-out briefly and then return to there actual readings), not sure if this has any bearing or relation but seems odd it all started at a similar time.

Any ideas or suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated, I don`t really want to turn up to a garage with out being slightly prepared. ( and this may be a common issue that some of you chaps may know off)

Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you're "just" suffering from electrical gremilins. I'm not familiar with the D9's setup (the later model of 406 which you have) but unfortunately problems like this aren't rare with them.

Someone else should be along shortly who is familiar with this stuff... I'd recommend finding out what's wrong with the help of the guys here then going to an independent garage to get it fixed if it's something you can't do yourself - Peugeot dealers aren't cheap, and some of our gurus here are much more knowledgeable!

Your idle problems may be caused by a duff idle control valve or throttle position sensor which I believe to be fairly cheap and easy to replace

Welcome, it is an electrical fault to do with the resisters/relays which work the radiator fan.

Seen that post/guide while trawling this forum before I posted.

Wanted to see if you guys with extra knowledge could eliviate my fears, and come with anything else that may be a issue.

Good 'ole foggy, great guide, and I will be trying that as my earliest opportunity.

I`ll let you know if it resolves the issue, and if not....... i shall return with more questions

My car failed the other way round, the Fan itself crapped out

£280.00 later it was fixed (after mucho investigation due to Engine Check Light on).
