406 d8 release bearing

hi i am in the middle of doing a clutch on my 406 2ltr 16v r reg. i have got down to dropping the dam thing out but i seem too be stuck on the thrust bearing:frown: how do i get it off? , its a backward clutch with a dmf. thanks :D

yes its a backwards clutch, but you dont have a DMF, the reason your having trouble with the release bearing is because its part of the pressure plate, the gearbox should just come out and the fork will slide off the release bearing but reffiting is a right arse, it took me nearly three hours when i did mine, you have to align the release bearing and have the fork at the right angle so they lock into each other when you fit the gearbox back, otherwise the gearbox wont go back on

\remove the spring pin out of the clutch arm and then remove the arm, and it will then be easy to get the box off as it allows the clutch fork arm to rotate.

thanks which position is the clutch leaver in the box when you take the box out (fwd back) or does it not matter? i have got both shafts out bellhousing has come out about 2-3 inches but i cannot get the bearing of the clutch leaver, the box itself is loose i can giggle the thing around no probs just wont release off the bearing. any little tricks to persuade the thing out ? ive been trying for hours :cry:

......doh! why didnt i think of that ,thanks guys i must be getting old or im high on anglesey air thanks :cheesy:

Glad to help m8, when refitting the box attach a small pair of mole grips to the top of the clutch shaft so you can guide the fork into the bearing easier, by turning the grips. you can see the fork entering the bearing(oh matron) through the holes in the top of the box.

thanks for the tip refitting box today pressure plate was anodized in lots of colors,guess the pensioner who i got this off legs was shot ,unlike the fly wheel thank god (lol) :cheesy:
