Dose anybody know if there is anything in the fuel filter housing that can make a strange noise like a ticking , sounds like an electric fuel pump going wrong but i have not had the housing apart yet and from reading the info posted this can be a mission on its own
Could it be a noisy fuel pump in the tank transmitting the noise up the pipe?
Is there an electric solanoid valve in the fuel pump housing?
It makes the noise as soon as you turn the key in the heater plug part and then stops ,if you start the engin it starts again ?
it seems to be getting worse and was a ticking now a screaming (could be a dwarf in the fuel filter housing but i have a strange feeling its not that )
any help would be great

Could be (but hopefully not) your low pressure pump sending bits of itself into the filter housing. Theres no solenoid or anything in the filter, just the filter and seals. I would open up the filter and checking for bits of metal in the bottom. It is quite common for the low pressure pump to go.
If it is you will need a low new low pressure pump (in the tank), fuel filter housing and need to do something with the fuel lines to get all the bits of pump out.
If any get of of the metal bits into the high pressure pump, your looking at a new high pressure pump which isn't cheap. So i would get this sorted quick and avoid using the car!

Welcome!
My filter housing 'sings' or 'screeches' at you when to put the ignition on, then stops. The noise is the pump the the tank forcing fuel up and through a thermostatic element in the filter setup. If it is cold outside then the fuel will be diverted to a pre-heater and I understand that this noise is linked to whether the fuel needs heating or just goes straight through.
The noise on the ignition setting is FAR louder than the pump itself but I wouldn't say it 'ticks' though
As mbell said, it would be worth a quick look in there but be prepared to buy a new filter + housing first instead of messing about with it.

I think i will stick my ear to the tank to see if I can hear the same noise
then I will have an idea about the fuel pump in the tank
the noise realy sounds as if it is coming from the fuel filter area
i will have a closer look at the area to see if its something else a valve or something
Thanks for the advise

I recently lifted my rear seat and had a listen.
All I got was a nasty grumbly compressor type sound. I quickly replaced the seat and ignored it.
I should expect it to fail though at some point as it appears that they can go in the early 100,000's (I shall look forward to that then).
Like your signature by the way, very true
