HDI 90 engine issue
Good afternoon,
I need to help from you guys again, I recently had my Peugeot 406 HDI Rapier 2000 seviced.
The car went in with a Engine management light on, was showing Clutch actuator switch too high on OBD2 I had.
The garage I used are pretty good and the code was found to be incorrect and issues pointing to the MAF sensor, as the mechanics there had diagnosed it and cleaned the sensor, a week later and the issue with the light has come back.
Car is struggling to pick up speed on Motorways etc, I put her into 4th and 5th gear and the power band seems to go....
5th gear and foot to the floor and the car is doing 55 MPH on flat road, 70 going down hill lol.
I have ordered a MAF sensor replacement, as I believe that is the issue.
Can anyone please help me?

If it's still the o.e maf then it'll be done for,
These go out of trim through use.
Always go for a genuine one, not a cheep eBay one as it'll be no better if not worse.
You can always try unplugging your's,
I can't remember if it works on the Siemens 90bhp but it works on the Bosch 110bhp.
Must be worth a quick try.

It sounds like your car is in limp mode.
You can run with MAF unplugged, no issues, and it's possible to run without the clutch pedal switch plugged in too ( although it buggers up cruise control if it's fitted )
Many faults on the 406s are wrong if read by a generic code reader - so I would suggest a cleaning of the throttle position sensor, and maybe blank the EGR.
If either of these are giving duff information to the other sensors then there will be a coherence issue, which would lead to limp mode or fault lights.

Evening lads,
Thanks for the replies. I took the car out yesterday for a drive with the MAF disconnected it drove so much better, I cleared the Engine light too.
I've ordered a second hand MAF sensor. For now I have sprayed the sensor with WD-40 Contact Spray cleaner, tested the car without the MAF connected and it moved like a Rocket compared to the previous day.
As I had previously stated the car was being very sluggish and unresponsive on the Expressways/Motorways.... Over taking a wagon doing 50mph was quite stressful. I had the car serviced and the mechanics I know had mentioned the MAF, Just hope the replacement turns up sooner than later as I'm working a temp job this side of Christmas.
I noticed the harness that connects to the MAF as a nick in the cable.

Oops! You you have mice? Check for more damage.
Btw I see that dirty engine oil can conduct electricity, but I guess you already doused the connector in WD.

That first picture with the wire,
That's just the outer insulation broken through it going brittle.
This problem get's worse the older the car get's & Peugeot are renowned for small gauge low quality wire & plugs
I personally wouldn't waste my money on a used MAF.
Just drive round with yours unplugged untill you can afford a new genuine one.
Your car will be in it's base settings, so economy won't be as good as with a fully working MAF but that's about it.

The most reliable car I've ever owned, but S.W.M.B.O hated it, said it was a mini cab

I've only ever owned one Japanese car - albeit in disguise...
A 1983 Triumph Acclaim
It was brilliant - reliable, comfortable, surprisingly well built, easy to work on ( the different size bolts were colour coded..! ) and fairly nippy for a 1.3.
It was a grandad style car so I never got pulled over by the local constabulary despite my exuberant driving - however that all changed when I part exchanged it for a Fiesta Supersport...

The only thing I remember about the acclaim was it used CX500 carbs (which overheated).
I've had 1 x Ni$$an and 2 x Toyotas and the wiring in them is tiny, tiny, tiny The wiring in the Pug was about 4 times the size (and the connectors are mostly Bosch afaik.)
