HELP! Key and barrel stolen!

Post by josuekaboha »

My 1.8L (Ew7J4) petrol 406 had the key and ignition key barrel pinched. I live in Oceania where Peugeot dealers or experts are nonexistent, so my only options are what I can get online.
I found an eBay listing of an ÉCU+ Bsi + key and barrel off a Citroen C5 with the same engine. Will my Peugeot run if I simply connect this set? To help you a little, I’ve attached a picture of my ECU followed by the set on eBay and a closeup of that ECU.

Another option I can think of is to send my current ecu to be remapped to disable the immobiliser, then hot-wire the ignition. Will that work?

Thanks for your help.

From what I understand, apart from matching the engine, you also need to match other features of the car, such as if there's any variable power steering, air conditioned or not, etc. But I don't know what consequences it would make if it does not have 100% exact equipment.

Also if I'm not mistaken there's a way to enable/disable features in PP2000 depending on what equipment is installed in the car, but I'm not sure if those could apply in this case.

Only the the key and ignition key barrels were pinched? You mean just the metal? In that case you might want to replace just those. The electronic coding does not depend on the shape of the metal parts.

Do you still have a spare key? That you could use to open the doors, in case the keyfob or car battery has run down? If not you might also have to replace all the door barrels...
