You can get 5 litres of Total quartz 9000 5w 40 fully synthetic oil for £22.00 posted on ebay
I have run this stuff for the last 5 years & 60k, when I had the head off last year the inside (camshaft ect)
was like new :D .
It's the best stuff listed in the handbook by Peugeot.

But I've switched to Mobil one this year to try to lower oil temps whist towing
I'll report back on this after my jolly's 8)

Thanks for that. But what does the type your promoting do that's different from the rest? Not being awkward, I just want to know if it's because of certain parts like hydraulic tappets etc.

tbfh any semi-synth or synth oil in either 30 or 40 weight is probably going to be fine anyway, oil has come a long way since the XU was designed, even a basic semi-synth has twice the service life and HTHS ratings as they had back then - just grab something with A3/B4 or A5/B5 rating on the bottle (or even a C3) that's a bit stouter for turbo diesel loadings.

If you don't mind a few more pennies then a 0w30 or 0w40 fully synth or similar - personally I run 5w30 Millers Nanotech fully synth oil in my V6.

The tappets won't be an issue unless you run oil that's too thick or go too long without changing so they gum up.

Wag,

I did state in my post why,

The Total is listed in the Peugeot handbook that came with the car & the reason for changing to Mobil one
this year is because it's made using a much better base stock oil to start with & should help lower my oil temps
when towing as it's better under high loads.

I have only done this because I am towing with it, & the reason for fully synthetic.
I allways have for better engine life, I tend to keep my cars for a long time & it had a history of fully synthetic
Before my ownership for the previous 50k, so thought it'd be rude not to :supafrisk:

Phillip I looked at the Nano tech but it is just for my load lugger :cheesy:
I paid £21.00 posted for the Total quartz 9000 5 litres, £60.00 for 10 litres of Mobil one 0w 40 ( bit of a bargain I thought)
The best I could get the millers for was £52.00 for five litres , which as my car takes 5.4 litres due to the oil cooler
So over £100 for 10 litres, too much for the lugger :cheesy:

I got enough for 2 oil changes for free :supafrisk:

Good stuff though, only oil I've ever seen a noticable increase in MPG on. Need it in a V6

Wag, does your HDi have a DPF? If it does, it is critical that you use the correct spec oil or you will block the DPF.

I have used full synthetic in all my HDi's since 2001, either 5w30 or 5w40, but none of my 2.0 ones have had a DPF, only the 2.2's. A couple of my HDi's have more than 650000 on them and engines still going like clockwork. Regular cambelt changes are essential also in these motors.

I use this in mine, 35 pounds for 20 litres.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MANNOL-Defen ... ctupt=true

As it doesn't have a DPF it doesn't need low ash oil. I use this in my Merc too.
