Afternoon all,

Recently put my 406 on the road and was wondering if you can get them to roll coal? Its a 2.0 HDi 110.

Now why on earth would you want to do that? Do you actually want to increase power output (a remap is what you want there) or do you really want to turn it into a road going Amoco Cadiz?

Undoing the boost pipe between the intercooler and inlet manifold should dramatically increasing emissions and reduce power,
with the added advantage it'll spew crankcase breather fumes from under the bonnet.

Ridiculous idea, hate this "rolling coal" fad. All you're doing is contributing to the decline of an already suffering atmosphere. Get yourself in the bin.

Rolling Coal isn't my idea of fun, I don't get it...
However, unlike the older 406 with the XUD engine where you can turn a screw on the pump, the Hdi is completely different and can't be adjusted manually, as far as I know.
With a basic remapping tool and a laptop then you could make changes to the ECU and fueling to create a certain amount of smoke, but a professional remapper will give more power without the smoke, which I would prefer.

The idea's generally to punish cyclists for daring to use their roads.

If done right, the cyclist will either crash, resulting in financial loss and a potential hospital damage, suffer from mild to strong hypoxia from holding their breath for extended periods with an elevated heart rate, or just get cancer.

Yeah cyclists annoy me sometimes, but you've got to a be a full on w**ker the think that would be fun.

My understanding of it was that it was to achieve maximum output from the engine. Nowt to do with cyclists etc

Dumping so much fuel in that it belches huge amounts of thick black smoke will not give you maximum power. The huge amount of smoke is from the fuel not being burnt efficiently. Our 130pd passat has been remapped and it puts out less crap now than It did before. It will pull hard right up to the red line and there's not a hint of smoke out of the back.

So why do the engines in tractor pulling etc emit so much smoke if it doesn't produce maximum power ??

Completely different scenario and engine, for starters they usually add alcohol into the diesel as this cools the fuel making it denser. They also run ridiculous levels of boost to match the huge fuel intake and are under huge loads, hense the huge explosions when something let's go.
Dumping extra fuel in will give you some more power but there comes a point where the engine just can't burn effectively anymore fuel so it chucks out black smoke and you end up losing power.
So yes you can make them smoke but it won't be quick. Buy a cheap and nasty ebay tuning box and restrict then air flow.

So why do all the pd130's round here all chuck out black smoke then if there's no point ??? For the record my 407 is on standard map, with dpf intact and working as it should, I'm just curious
