Non starting 2.0Hdi

Post by GingerMagic »

Hi everyone..
Just a quick question.
My friend has a 307 with the 2.0Hdi engine, Bosch system.
I had a message saying that the car won't start, so I popped over today to try to get it going.
It was spinning over fine, but it isn't catching - it's kinda trying but not quite there..

Battery is fine, starter is fine and my laptop is on charge as I type this so I can plug it in tomorrow for a diagnostic.
Can anyone have a think as to what I should check first?
Cheers :cheesy:

Just thought, I should check the lift pump - I didn't really think if that at the time.

When you turn ignition to on, you should hear fuel pump run for a few seconds

Do we know if the lift pump is accessed under the rear seat like the 406?

Make sure it's definitely got a lift pump - don't go off on a wild goose chase like mine....http://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f= ... 3&start=15

Quick update...
I did a quick diagnostic on the 307, and the only permanent fault was the FAP was overloaded ( even though it was jet washed in November - not my decision!! )
Would this stop the car starting, is there a fail safe in place?

The lift pump works fine, can and crank are in sync, which I guess rules out cam belt failure, and no other faults regarding fuel pressure or coherence....

Battery is flat now though, pfft.

A blocked dpf will make it near impossible to start, (found this out when some smartass tried to pass off a tatty 2.2 406 as a 2.0 to my bro - insisted on bringing it round so we wouldn't see the performance he had starting it).
That, combined with the recent low temperature to sap battery power may be your answer.

Thanks Doggy, I've just made enquiries regarding DPF recalibration - which is the garage removing and remapping at the owners risk...
Normally I would like it sorted properly but short journeys will block it again super quick...

If you want to confirm a blocked dpf is causing the non starting then undo the dpf from the exhaust.

Thanks John..
My Peugeot mechanic said to put my hand over the end of the exhaust while it's being cranked over - I should feel a chuff chuff as the car is turning over, or if there is no chuff chuff and slow wheesh when cranking is stopped then that's a pretty good diagnostic for a blocked DPF.

It's about £400 to remove the DPF and remap to suit, which is what the car originally cost - but as it's been brilliant in every other way then I guess it's better the devil you know.

Now then...you've just reminded me, I've had a few exhaust back boxes blocked on the 307 making the car fail to accelerate...the same thing you mentioned applies to the back box.
Personally I would just undo the dpf and allow the car to breathe.

First of all though....try some easy start!

I hadn't thought of easy start to be honest....
I'll grab some and give it a go - do you think there would be further damage if the DPF is blocked and the car then starts..??

Can you remember if there is one or two cannisters on a 51 plate Hdi 110 307?

There were no DPF warning lights, just PP2000 giving that fault.
