Front disc deep rust bands

Post by piglet »

I can't remember the last time I wore a set of pads out.
I replaced rear discs&pads on the 406 last year because the discs were rusty as arseholes even though the car is used most days and does about 6K/year, calipers were sliding fine.
I had the same on my Connect van early this year, another set of discs&pads in the bin with 1000's of miles left in them.
Now the fronts on the 406 are the same, both scaled up on the inside face, outer edge.

Am I supposed to be driving more aggresively? I remember the good ole days of running pads down to the backings just because I could.

What's going on?

My 406 rear discs used to run really clean but I do drive my cars quite enthusiastic (I blame the route to work it eggs me on).

Rears will always lag behind with light use to the point where they eventually do bugger all....not good if you need to jump on them in an emergency. I can only advise to make sure everything is new, clean, bled and free-moving and then use them and use them good.

I do 20k plus a year and I'm not generally known for holding up traffic, but I struggle to keep my rear discs rust free.
Must need to be more enthusiastic. :?
