Changed the Zzzaust

I eventually got fed up with my car trying to gas me, the flexi joint had broken apart and the rear backbox fell off, so i changed the lot tonight. The middle and backbox cost £80, a new front section with cat was going to be a further £80, but i rummaged through the parts stash i had a HDi 90 front section. The cat part was a lot smaller looking than my 110 one, so i took a metal bar and hammer to the box to empty it out, put it into the car and its a lot quieter now, no smoke smell or light headedness at traffic lights.
Is there any reason why the two different cats were used?

Hi Farmer, I wondered where you've been
I guess the Cat size is dependent on engine output where the 90 would emit less than the 110, it shouldn't really be hugely different I mean you don't see enormous Cats on high-powered cars they always seem fairly similar in size.
Are you sure that's not from a 206 or something

The 90 cat is smaller, especially the Semen's which is so small in the diagrams I didn't even think it was a cat...

Hi Frank,
FWIW the cat on my HDi 90 Xsara was tiny. It was an ex-lease 80,000-miler when I bought it & had already had the cat replaced
twice cos it was blocked.
You did the right thing adjusting* it prior to fitting.

Hi chaps. Who is still driving 406es now? Are there many more Volvos
The 305s are still ok, just busy in work and had to move to a different shed. same yard just the one i was in is about to blow away, still awaiting sand blasting.
It was good to move over to a different shed, got a chance to plan it a bit better, got boot load of old floursecent tube lights for £10 and enough wire so put in a few extra. The other place was a bit dark, and put down a bit of floor paint for the inevitable oil spills/leaks, and some proper shelving for the 305 bits:
It was definatley off a 406, standing underneath mine i thought it had an experimental FAP but it was just an ordinary cat, the new smaller one looked clogged inside and it didnt take long to carry out the "adjustments". The flexi joint on the old one was shot:
What causes the flexi joints to go bad, my engine mounts all still seem to be in reasonable nick, no excessive movement from them or signs of wear, i see my local motor factors have universal flexi joints, can they be welded in?

Hi Frank

,
I''ve still got mine, yes you can weld in a replacement flex pipe, the 90 cat looks like a pattern one to me & your 110 one
is the original & worth very good money at the scrap metal yard (I got £150 sniffs for the last one I took in

)

Are cats really worth that? The value of scrap is well down at the moment
