2003 406 110 hdi estate
Today I parked up for a short while after about an 8 mile drive and when I started up again the STOP light was blinking on the dash and an engine temp high message came up on the display, the temp gauge was on the cold area of the gauge.
I drove on for about 2 miles before I could stop, when I stopped I checked under the bonnet the fan was running, the top hose was hot but not extremely hot and the bottom hose was cool.
I checked the water a little later and there was no loss.
I drove back home and the engine temp high warning did not come on again but the temp gauge stayed at the beginning of the cold scale.
Any ideas what could be wrong?

Re: Engine temperature high message
Usually this is caused by a faulty engine temperature sensor...located at the right hand side of the cylinder head under the air filter box...it's a green one.
If you don't have water loss and the heater is blowing hot then it will probably be the sensor.

Re: Engine temperature high message
Thanks for the reply will have a look at that, there is no coolant loss and no visible leaks and the heater is blowing hot.
Re: Engine temperature high message
Please change temperature sensor.
