Speedo dropping to 0

Got a niggly on the RS.

Every now and then the speedo drops to 0 when driving - appears a common 406 fault by all accounts.

Couple of fixes I've seen are the transponder(?) behind the glovebox or a dirty speed sensor on the gearbox.

Not sure if mine is fitted with the glovebox sensor - ( 2000 GTX 110hdi )

Before I start undoing things, anyone had this on theirs for a quicker fix ?

Thx

You won't have a transducer above the glovebox. Do you notice a drop off in performance when it does this? If so it's the transducer on the gearbox, if not it's probably a dodgy joint on the dash I'm afraid.

On later, full-mux cars you can test the clocks while stationary with PP2k, which should tell if it's a dash issue, (you probably can with semi-mux too, just haven't tried).

I had this happen this time last year.. Quite fun when the power drops off while towing 1100kgs up up a mountain.

Had my mechanic change the gearbox speed sensor and jobs a good un... The needle does seem to judder a bit around the 60 to 70mph mark though... Think i paid about £14 from Ebay but can't find the listing now.

Yes, you notice a slight dip on road speed and power output - a little surge when it comes back too.

Thx all, I'll get the mechs on it
