Threads looking for remaps.

406oc.co.uk management have recently discussed the recently influx of threads asking for copies of engine maps off other members free of charge.

We have come to the conclusion that these types of threads will no longer be allowed on the forum. This includes EGR or DPF/FAP delete files.

We have come to this decision as we are afraid that people may acquire a map that is not suitable for their car and may cause damage to their management system or engine.

We also thought it was unfair on the people who originally designed and wrote these maps for them to be given away free of charge online.

As a club we have no issue with members recommending specialists to supply you with maps and have no issues with guiding you on the equipment you need and the knowledge on how to read and write maps to your car.

I hope that you all understand why this measure has been put into place.

Thanks,
406oc Moderating Team.

isn't this a bit unfair?

Seems like the story of my life.. I ask for the famous 180 map and then it's disallowed...

Retrospective Enforcement....

Nothing too serious Lozz!
We've just noticed members signing up just to get maps off of us and badgering members via pm for maps then once they've got what they want they dissappear.
We didn't and don't want the forum becoming a file sharing website so we thought it was time to stop it in its tracks.

Obviously us regulars know who has copies of what maps and generally we are all to happy to help each other!

Whilst I can't say I'm entirely comfortable with the remap situation, we have thrashed out the question of people signing up just to advertise and I think the consensus is that, providing it's 406-related, all that matters is we're getting the chance to see these cars, rather than looking for them elsewhere. Just a couple of weeks back we had someone trying to advertise a load of motorcycles, there are quite a few bikers on here but it didn't make it into the forum because, well, they ain't Pug

I suppose a little common sense will tell genuine forum members if people are signing up just to blag free stuff.

If someone has a reasonable number of posts on various subjects the relevant info can be passed on via pm's.

John, get involved in the forum. You're most welcome!
If new members become part of the community rather than asking for what they want and then disappearing they will find there is a wealth of knowledge to be shared!

Can I come round your house tonight and borrow your Television for a few weeks? it's a big ask isn't it?

This is a free Community forum, there's no charge for memberships and no-one is paid to be here, as such everyone's input here is on the basis that they are helping fellow owners in need and very often it takes a long time to build relationships; some people come and go and some people stay around and become friends. As Teamy said, join in a bit and I'm sure you'll find the forum very useful and a good laugh too (I haven't had a 406 for 5 years but stay as a regular here).

You shouldn't read all this as 'go away' by the way, far from it, I'm sure you'll benefit from using this forum as well as anyone else has.

Most other forums have adopted a similar "rule", so I don't think it's unfair. And, like others say, as long as you hang around for a bit, you'll know where to look anyway :)

Looking at your posts it doesn't look like it to me, you came here with an issue which got sorted and then someone introduced you to the idea, you didn't come here expressly for that and burger off the moment you got it

I did... Then i found nobody had a map for me so i stayed put to piss you all off... If someone wants to donate a nicely mapped 2.2 somewhere in the 180bhp region to the "get Scott'y to leave foundation" I'll gladly fook off.

I got one bud I was kidding, my ecu numbers didn't match what Doggy could find but without asking Doggy I'd have never known that... Not sure if your map was for the 2.2 but i was after the whole car or I'm staying put.

Edit: Thanks for directions to the Yemen.
