I'm not too sure about the 406, but a friend had the same issue on his Mondeo after a front end bump - turned out to be a broken intercooler. Maybe check the intercooler hoses on yours to see if they are on properly?
This is of course, if you have an Hdi110.....?

Pinched fuel line? Dunno, I think you're going to have to go through everything you've disturbed during the surgery and check everything's connected properly.

the light on the dashboard that shows the fuel delivery to the engin stays on when it is started, so i guess that is has something to do whit the fuel delivery

They have a light on the dash for that?
It does kind of sound like there's not enough fuel getting to the engine, enough to idle but when the throttle is opened the mixture drops to almost zero and the engine dies, however I'm not even sure it works like that. It might be the ecu deciding that the fault is so bad it needs to shut down to avoid damage. Is the cam timing ok?

The timing should be fine. And yes, my car does have that light

But if it was the timing, how would you time the xu10j4r?

When you were changing the head gasket, did you drop or bash the throttle body perchance?
Dunno how plausible this is, but if the shaft the throttle cable attaches to has somehow detached from the butterfly (but is still attached to the throttle pot), when you move the accelerator, the ecu will disengage the idle solenoid and the throttle will close (instead of being opened by the pedal), starving the engine of air.
To check this, pull the air intake pipe from the throttle body (probably just a large jubilee clip holding it on) and turn the wheel with the cable on it by hand with the engine off. You should be able to see/feel the throttle valve open.
While you're at it, you could try running the engine with the pipe off to see if your problem is a different air blockage

have you checked the vac lines also the ht side? do the ht leads in the dark as you will be able to see the electricity leaks, check the obvious first rather than starting down unprobabil lines like the throttle plate detaching

i dont know what is it call right now, but there are two grey conectors one that goes under the intake manifold and one that goes to the throttle body, and somehow i had put them in the wrong place

I guess mjb had it closest there with the throttle body. Well done for figuring it out!
