Hi All about to buy a 1999 406 2.0 LX HDI 110 Estate but it has a turbo problem in that it looses some power, is this a major problem? otherwise it seems to be ok.

It's unlikely to be the turbo, they rarely go wrong. It's much more likely to be something like the throttle position sensor, a dodgy vacuum valve, or the maf sensor.
I take it that no warning lights are on?
Or even a blocked fuel or air filter maybe?

I agree, the turbos are generally very good and its the sensors, vacuum and MAF that let the car loose power.

Buy the car anyway, its a good reliable and cheap to run car - most issues can be solved by members on the forum should you have any other issues with it.

Use the ' loss of power ' as a bargaining tool...

Thanks guys I bought the car and had it checked out, seems there a few small issues and it is up and running great, 115000 miles looks and runs like a dream. If I have any issues I will contact the forum again for sure... great advice!

If it dies off under heavy load, try unplugging the MAF sensor. With the engine off, unplug the grey plug that comes off the sensor just behind the airbox. If it feels slower, turn it off and plug it back in, it's working! If it feels quicker, then you have a faulty MAF (basically it resets to default values if unplugged.)

Well everyone had the car a month now and it's running like a dream... only thing that is happening is that the engine management light comes on now and again but there is no change in the cars performance, in fact it is the best car that I have had for MPG. thanks for all your help and happy motoring.
