So, took the pug to specialist to pug planet it. Came up with fuel pressure fault and couldn't get fans to work at all. The fans turned out to be the high speed relay corroded to mush. The mechanic nipped to a scrappy, bought two foot of loom and an interior relay. 're wired it all in so now fans work and aircon!! No more overheating in traffic!! The eml however, isn't sorted. The guy took the bank off and checked for swarf etc. All good. Did leak bag test. All perfect. Not sure what else to look at now. What's happened is setting off full bore from traffic lights the car went limp and cut out about 3k rpm. Wouldn't start up immediately. Ignitin on and off 12 times. Ten minute wait and it started. Drives fine atm. Eml went off after two miles. Now I'm not sure what it can be... Thoughts. ???

'Fuel pressure fault' is a bit vague, normally you get something like fuel pressure senor faulty , or fuel pressure not reaching requested value.
For the first, the pressure sensor / wiring is favourite, for the second the fuel pressure regulator, (which is fitted into the HP pump), is likely. I would have thought your specialist should have been aware of these though. Strange.

Story. Can't remember exactly what he said. Forgot the fault code too. Pressure values were checked and fine. He seemed honest enough as it goes. Told me the car fine under average driving and couldn't see any obvious reason why it coded like it did. Said he'd rather not waste my money searching or replacing bits that could be fine and said soon as it happens again, if it did then come back. I'll het the fault code from him in morning when I pick the car up

Lost the bloody fault code didn't I

but it was fuel pressure below and above requested values. Though the leak bag test came back perfect stood still, I rekon an injector may have been the culprit under load. Have driven it normally for a few days and it's fine. Gonna try and force the car to do it again under the same conditions I think, after my fishing holiday! If that doesn't work well... God knows!!
