hi, in trying to remedy a speedo fault on my old girl i have ended up with the EML coming back on a few seconds after starting and when you turn it off it carries on running for a few seconds with the battery light on before stopping. Have been told it's pure coincidence that it's happened when i've been messing with the instrument cluster(which has been replaced along with the gearbox sensor and still no joy there either

), one of the lads at the local pug spares says it's an electronic fault with the ignition but then another says its deffo' the diesel pump (2.1 xud td, lucas injection ) if it's carrying on without the key ?.., the car runs fine doesn't seem any different to drive...., anyone have an idea whats going on with it ?

Running on is usually the stop solenoid but, after you messed with the clocks who knows?

Does it still do it with the clocks removed? It might help to have the codes read.

yep, have tried it with the clocks unplugged, it's the same ........., got a replacement set of clocks yesterday and they've made no difference looking like the interface

...., is it worth taking it in to have the codes read ?..., as have giving thought to buying a cheap reader of my own ?

Damn

Ah well.
It might help, it might not - the skill of code reading is interpreting what it's actually telling you, rather than just changing the bits it tells you are faulty. It can't hurt anyway.
Hurry up and buy one then!

I've no idea but I'm sure someone else will be able to recommend something.

have seen a pp2000 clone online for £70...., it's the cheapest one i've seen with a 30 pin adapter......, have seen smaller readers for £20-£30 but would also need to buy a seperate adapter for another £20

Had the engine diagnosed and it's the diesel pump

.........., also feel better as he said it was just v bad timing that it went when it did and wasn't down to me messing with the clocks (thank god !! lol ). The chap says the pumps are coded and i need a pump with a matching code.., have had a quick and can see the info plate but can't read it all without a mirror......., do i need it all or just some ?.., whats the code for anyway lol ?

is it complex changing the pump ?

search for post under the name of poddack, I have had both faults, running on is due to the rubber bit on the end of the stop solenoid missing, speedo problems I cured by replacing bits in the box behind the glove compartment.
