Hi all got a 52 plate 406 hdi changed the rear brakes discs and pads and a caliper that was sized solid all well , the clutch started to play up not disengaging when changing gear so changed the slave , great got good clutch now but in the morning the pedal drops to the floor when left overnight, put foot under it lift it up it is ok any ideas as it is driving me mad thanks all and hello

Try bleeding it again, making sure the brake fluid reservoir is kept absolutely brimmed (jack the front of the car high, and keep lifting the front of the reservoir up to free the trapped air). Failing that, I guess your master cylinder's shot?

Go on give me a shock how much for a master fitted , as he holds his breath

i have exactly same problem on my hdi 90,just got used to lift pedal up an up mine`s not only drops overnight,if i stuck in traffic or doing long motorway trip keeps dropping down

must be a common fault then

Had the same problem only i needed to pump the clutch pedal to get some pressure,it was the master-slave cylndersystem malfunction.
Did you check the clutch pedal for signs of some oil leaks on the pedal itself?
My 406 clutch pedal had oil on it,i wipe it out,left overnight and in morning again oil on it.

Thanks for the welcome folks , I have no leaks on the pedal or anywhere else as i check the ground when i pull away , i have even look at the plunger up under the pedal thinking it was a spring but no its not , can anyone give me a rough price for the master cylinder to be changed , or a good garage in the telford area thanks .

i dont know what type of clutch cylnder system is in diesel engines,but in my petrol,its closed system so i had to change master and slave.
Dont know about the price since im in croatia...roughly here,it cost 200 euro i think,botch cylnders and work.

No my slave is separate easy to change just looked at the master as it scares me as i am disabled my hands are FUBAR no use i got the wife to change the slave with me telling her what to do what a woman eh .

That's the sealed D8 setup. D9s use discrete components fed from the brake fluid reservoir

I have the same problem if pressing the clutch pedal all the time in stop-start traffic. Been doing it since I got the car over 4 years ago - new clutch or slave or bleeding it doesn't help. The only thing I haven't replaced is the master cylinder, which I still have lying around sealed but it's a big pain to replace.

Thanks for that information,didnt knew about that,d8 system is dumb,i had to replace it all.
