probs after new clutch

HI all,
My clutch died last week so had it towed to my local garage, he fitted a new clutch kit in exchange for £300
. Prior to the clutch change I was having an intermitant fault with the speedo not working, however it has stopped working completely now and wont hold tick over. the engine purrs when I drive it but as soon as I put my clutch in the revs drop to 0 and it stalls. I cant get it back to the garage until Friday and am hoping someone can advise on what it might be. I think it may be the speed sensor as I read on here it can cause problems with irratic idle.
