How much for a head gasket replacement?

Post by millard »

I've just been quoted £921, £800, and another at £800.
This is in the Andover area.
Anyone had this down recently? what kinda price did you pay?
anyone recommend a mechanic who doesn't charge the earth in the Andover area?
Cash in hand, or receipts, whichever suits.

cheers

Can't help with any mechanics in your area but out of curiosity I rang a place who do engine rebuilds with a 5 year warranty and they quoted me £1200 to do my old 1.9td.
I dare say if you travel north you'll pay a lot less on labour tho

Are you sure it's not woth looking into an engine swap, if it's going to cost that much?

A couple of the mechs reckoned that the labour charges for an engine swap would still be high, plus you dunno what you're buying.
looking more and more like a scrapper and buy the same again.
cheers guys

Hi Mike, thanks for your reply.
Any idea what you'd charge for the job?
I might consider bringing it to you.
PM me if you like?
cheers

L200's have the engine round the right way, much easier to get the head off.
