Yes. No.
Though it's a troublesome part and worth doing for reliability purposes, especially on an XUD.

Doing so will result in a number of Error Codes and Engine Check messages / Light !

On any car after 2001 when OBD2 was a basic requirement for emissions monitoring and fault notification!

Then obviously peugeot have not implemented the monitoring specification properly, missing flags and all that !

No error codes, if you physically remove and blank off the EGR actuator itself, but leave the contoller/servo thingy plugged in with the outlet vacuum pipe plugged. Even if you remove the servo doodah, you only get a stored fault code and shouldn't (so i'm told!!!) have the EML lamp on the dash coming on.
On the HDi the unit is prone to clogging, and on the XUD it causes localised hot spots in the head which can lead to cracking, so its worth the effort to at least disconnect it.

On the 2.1TD XUD engine the EGR valve itself is behind the engine and is a pain to get to.... unless you remove the inlet manifold...

is this the same valve that caused major probs with the renaults and gave the mechanincs severe depression and the owners turned suicidal?
