DE-EGR 2.2 HDI

I tried searching but its overkill with different ways of doing this on XUDs/2.0HDIs/ETC
I guess the EGR solenoid is middle one on the bulkhead. Many have said just unplug the electrical connector, but surely this would end up with the engine light on or at least a fault code. Would it be better to detatch the vacuum hose and plug the end of the hose with a bolt or something? (this is how I de-egr'd my 306 hdi anyway....)

Plenty of info on the Coupe' forums, or you could just PM finchy on this forum and he'll point you in the right direction. The main suggestion is to unplug the vacuum hose and then remove the EGR from the ECU.

I wouldn't worry too much about registering on there. You tend to be a bit of a leper on there if you've got a saloon or estate. Finchy is registered on here anyway & should receive a PM if you send one. He's the best man to talk to about removing the EGR anyway as he's done the proper job on his coupe.

No. PM Finchy, he'll point you in the right direction.

Iwouidnt bother with that Egr, blanking, theres no logic in it,
iblanked the egr, off on my xsara hdi,
Mpg went down too, 21mpg and smoked its Bolarks off going up hill under strain,
no gains in power either,

It's a less thing to worry about: if it's blocked it cannot break. Also, most guys on the coupe' forum reported a slight increase in mpg.

i dont see how,
perhaps in summer, might be slight gains in mpg,
Its all that smoke extra smoke it chucks out, ithink makes it pointless,
Try it on yours mate, youl see what imean,
blank it and go up a steep climb and look behind you

I have not blanked it yet and I probably won't, I was just pointing out what the guys on the coupe' forum found out.

Ok mate,
They might be right,
ive noticed these Hdi engines, differ alot, so that might be why mine chucks out smoke, (Blanked)
on this Citroen hdi ive got theres alot more, electrical stuff, than what ihad in the 406s, so perhaps all the Moderner HDI engines might Rely on the Egr,

The main reason the EGR removal has worked so well for the coupe crowd is that they have gone the whole hog & removed the EGR (& various other associated parts) from the engine map, rather than just unplugging or blocking it.

Having monitored the EGR operation on a running engine, I found it only ever operates under no-load or very low load conditions. If it's sealing properly when closed, I can't see where the benefit of blanking it would come from. Also, I understand that recirculating some exhaust speeds warm up, which can only be a benefit.
If I'm missing something, please explain.

The EGR lets less oxygen enter the combustion chamber when open, since part of the inert exhaust gas is recycled. Thus al low engine loads blanking/removing
will improve efficiency at the expense of emissions and warm up times. Also when the EGR is broken all sort of bad things can happen, so for someone it could be a preventive move to remove it.
However removing and cleaning the EGR isn't that complicated and it can be done DIY, even though there's no how to guide on here.
IMHO removing is not completely worth it, considering also the damage to the ambient (which I consider important but some may not). But if you remove all the EGR related stuff then you may lose some kilos and gain some straightness in exhaust pipes, so may slightly improve power other than economy for someone.

Sorry ibeg to differ,
the warm up time, drops rapidly.
inoticed the car took alot longer to warm up with it Blanked off,
if it was the case where there engine run hotter with it removed, Wouidnt that be good for the turbo

That's what I said, without the EGR the engine takes more to warm up.
