Diesel Injector Pump - End Float

This is a weird one. I swear I get all the luck!
Done the cambelt on the 406 recently and ever since its been rubbing on the bottom cover. Everything has been checked and nothing obvious is wrong. Tensioner, idler both seem fine. Belt is at correct tension. Crank Pulley is the right one (wasn't at first but has been changed now!).
Johns looked at it a couple of times, cant find a lot wrong with it either, even tried spacing out the cam cover bolts with washers but it still rubs the side of the belt!!!!
The only thing I did notice is the injector pump has a bit of end float in the pulley. I can grab the pulley and pull it in and out (the retaining bolt and shaft move with the pulley). Not much force is required to do this and it has about 3mm of movement (that really is an estimate!). The pump also squeaks at idle when the engine is running.
.... does that pump sound knackered? and is it possible that its causing the rubbing problem with the belt?
Sick of the car to be honest. Was even looking at getting a micra today as I used to have them before without any problems (chain driven engines
) but even they are getting rusty these days... cant win!
