static water injection (wallpaper steamer)

Hi guys, found out about static water injection from veg oil diesel forum the other day and thought i'd give it a go and share my experience.
Basicly i have a 405 td, running on svo which was a bit down on power/hard to start. So i took the intercooler off and stuck a wall paper steamer down into the inlet manifold with the engine on a fast idle (1200rpm). My wall paper steamer holds about 5 ltr's of water which took 40mins to go through the car.
The theory is that as the steam makes its way into the combustion chamber it then becomes super heated as it is compressed, and does a good job of cleaning the inside of your engine.
The results:
Smoother idle
More low down torque
20% better mpg
Better cold start

I don't doubt at all that this would have the desired effect. If you've ever seen the inside of an engine after a head gasket failure you'll notice how clean and shiny the crown of the pistons are thanks to the steam cleaning effect. This may be of interest to you also. Back in the 2nd world war the pilots of the planes going across the sea noticed that going very close to the surface of the sea would gain them more mileage and power, they worked out that water vapour from the sea was being drawn into the engine and causing combustion to be much better than normal conditions, giving a much higher engine efficiency. If you could rig that steamer to run constantly you may see some interesting results.

You'd get more interesting results rigging a leaf blower up... :supafrisk:

Well.........................the theory is sound, however it may not translate to the real world so easy :)

It's called Water injection. Often reffered to as Methanol injection.

Basically you have a small injector in the inlet system which injects water and/or methanol!
So tempted for my HDi! But don't think I'd see benefit.

Have a read up on it!
