is there a how to guide anywhere? my coolant has been leaking for a while now every few months the coolant light is coming on, i can see coolant stains around the thermostat so im hoping this is where the leak is as its not serious to replace

if its only every few months you notice stick a bottle of K-SEAL in. that should sort the leak out .

It's not too difficult - one of the first 'proper' car maintenance tasks I tried my hand at, with just basic (cheapo nasty) tools. The only thing to be aware of is that the rubber seal on the old one may have perished, effectively gluing it in place. If that's happened you'll need to carefully scrape it out, trying not to let any debris fall inside.

When you get the thermostat cover off check for any cracks in it as well; and as mjb says make sure you get a new o-ring for the replacement stat as this will most likely be the cause of the leak, see pic of mine!

Also check for any corrosion around the bottom rad hose where it enters the rad as this is another infamous leak point.

Dont you get the new o ring with the thermostat? as my thermostat came today and already had a rubber ring around it, so i wasted £2 ordering one seperatly that also came with it from eurocarparts, or do you mean something else?

I didn't with mine, guess it depends on the supplier.
