D8 or D9?
If it's a D9, chances are your battery's no longer giving out enough current to cold start. Usually there'll be an orange light in the bottom left of the dash with a picture of a key and a square.
If it's a 192bhp ES9J4 engine (doesn't apply to the 210bhp ES9J4S) and you can crank it for as long as you like but the *instant* you push the throttle it comes to life, then it's probably the ICV.

It should rattle, yeah, however starting problems and
only cutting out at lights (or when the clutch is dipped while coasting) strongly suggests an ICV problem. If you don't have access to suitable diagnostics (PP2000), I'd suggest splashing £20 here:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/330608084197 The seller is a good bloke - he's a 406 coupe breaker and usually has anything you'll need for a v6 engine at a good price if you send him a message.
The only other things I can think of are the throttle pot (could explain the hesitation) and the speed sensor (located at the top of the gearbox where the driver's side diff goes in).
Is there anything else
at all wrong with the car's electrics? Wobbly gauge on the dash, AC cutting out, lights misbehaving, etc?

yer the heater blower is tempremental and the airbag ligh comes on now and then .ivenoticed the heater blower is something to do with a green wire under the glove box.if you move it it comes to life lol
