Just put the front wings, bonnet, headlamps, slam panel, bumper and grille on the D8 and save yourself about 500 hour's work.

but the d8 has lots of parts missing and rotten sills while the d9 has a good body but a sick engine

Ah, I see. The D9 has a BSI so won't like the existing engine management, so you'd have to find a D9 ecu & engine loom for the right engine (XU10 not EW10) - the alternative being to completely rewire the car with the D8's loom, fuse boxes etc, clocks, dash, probably heater and mad stuff like the wiper motor and cooling fan(s) (depending on how multplex it is). You can probably splice stuff like the door looms. The fuel tank you'll have to swap, they were changed along with the rear suspension at RPO 8540 (March 2000) so you might have to swap the rear subframe too. The gearchanges are the same - it's lucky it's a 90 'cos it's the same box, more or less. You'll have to swap the pedal boxes over because the D8's is a cable clutch and the D9's hydraulic. You might have some fun with the engine lower mount if the D8 was made before RPO 7539 (July 1997) - they look similar but I have no idea if they'll fit. The upper mount changed at RPO 7966 (Sept 1998) when the part of the inner wing changed (as far as I can make out) - the easiest way would be to compare the two.

I'm sure there's more...

You can scrub round that stuff about the mountings, as neither the block nor the gearbox housing changed at the same time as the mounts you should just be able to use the D9 ones. There are a few differences between the D9 petrol & diesel mounting but at least you should be able to find them.

One thing I have noticed is I have no vin number for a D9 XU10 - either it's a much rarer engine or they discontinued it at some point.

Scrap D8, sell parts, buy DW10 (it doesn't matter which), fit to D9, eat cake.

Having taken a complete D8 loom(s) out of the stealth wagon. This is a mission and a half mate. Like its been suggested I'd break the D8 use the cash for another engine for the D9 for sure.

Can't be something as easy as a gear change cable popped off the ball can it?

I'll add it to my watch list, see how many other people think that might be all it is...

I'm sure he wouldn't mind if we nipped round & dropped the exhaust off to have a look. :supafrisk:

I was more concerned about, "THERE ARE SOME WARNING LIGHTS ON AND IT HAS A DENT IN THE ROOF".

Warning lights - probably FAP, dent in the roof might mostly push out if there's no creases, which I can't see in the pics.

Anyway, I just watched it go - talk about sniping frenzy!
