Am I right in thinking its a detuned version of the GTI-6 engine?

I do believe so as that is the sorter version of the GTI-6's engine code (XU10 J4RS/L3 RFS)

However the internals mightn't be exactly the same?!?

Cheers! Maybe its just me but it seems to be quite a rev happy engine, seems a bit more willing than the V6 in my old Vectra B.

Course ;) It's not a terribly torque-strong engine I don't think?

A 4-pot will always whistle faster than a V6 !

If you're a bit handy with the spanners, register with the coupe club & you'll see that a few people have made use of GTi-6 engine bits on their 2.0 coupes:

Its not too bad on torque, I can't do big hills in 5th like the vectra did but it did surprise me on the motorway in 2nd and 3rd, did seem like it would rev forever! Thanks, will have a look at that thread!
