iv already asked on 205gtidrivers forum and tried everything they have said but its still running the same so il copy and paste what i put on there

il point out first that the block is standard with the headgasket done already but not ran once, but the head has a 1.9 cam in it and was shimmed as a 1.9 according to the place who did the work. my fuel pump and tank is off a gti6.

well i started my engine and it was running rough popping from the exhaust and was smoking a bit which smelled like petrol so took the plugs out and they were black so it was overfueling but also sounded like the timing was out, the timing has been done by a 1.9 pulley so tried using welding rods down the chambers and looked like it was a couple of teeth out so changed the timing (checked it) and it was still running rough. within a couple of mins of it being started alot of mayo started appearing in the header tank which im guessing is the headgasket gone but the engine had only been running a couple of mins and not enough time for it to warm up as the pipes were still cold.

so far iv checked all this
bigger injectors - running standard
map sensor - tried different ecu and still running the same
tps - tried different throttlebody still same
not generating enough spark - faulty coilpack? - all sparks are good
fuel pressure too high - what would cause this? im running a gti6 pump which other people have used too with no problems
cam timing - burning fuel at wrong point and thus not burning all - checked timing 3 different ways all fine.
lambda sensor - running too bad to be this.
ignition module? - tried different still same
coolant temp sensor - bought a new one and still same

anbody know anything else i can try?

try looking at the breather's, also get a compresion check done, if your in south wales i'd be happy to come and have a look

forgot to say breathers are all clear and compression test done and alls good, im in manchester thanks for the offer though.

it mabie a longshot but did u have the head skimmed and pressure tested??

head was skimmed and new h/g by previous person so no problem there, just runs like its out on the timing by a tooth and therfore overfueling but like i said timing has been checked 3 different ways.

what about oxygen sensor. if thats reading wrong that would cause the ECU to overfuel ???

i had this problem in my vectra . i had a airline crack in the manifold , which was making the oxygen sensor read wrong . always had a very heavy smell of petrol ..

or camshaft sensor,

another problem on my vectra.

all caused ruff running,

tbh im mre concerned about the mayo in the header tank than anything, if the head wasnt presure tested how do you/we know that there's not a crack in it.

however gary is right any of those things could cause it, but as i said i concerned with the oil getting into the water witch would explain the mayo.

since flushing the system out changing new oil and water theres been no mayo since so must of been left in the engine previous.

its running too bad for it to be lamba, some people run this engine without it too + my lamba is a year old so cant see the problem being there, where is said camshaft sensor located ? do these engines have one?

anyone got any ideas?

Lord knows, we're better at fixing them after they've gone wrong (and not too hot on that either sometimes )

I don't like the sound of mayo appearing in the header tank - did you leave a seal out? Also

Does this mean you put the standard ones in? Was it the cam timing that was out? The engine only seems to have a crank sensor so I don't think the ignition timing could be out.
