dont have piktures mate but if you look on top of the gearbox you should see a white/clear plastic screw .. this is were you put the new stuff

on the bottom / underneith the gearbox will be a sump plug (get a new copper seal before hand)

IMPORTANT - do not overfill make sure the exact amount it needs goes in or say bye bye to your shaft seals

yes it happened to me after a clutch change, the guy put to much oil in and the drive shaft seals went bust and it started leaking

luckily he fixed it at his cost

Indeed, sticking it in through the hole for the reversing light switch saves a hell of a lot of buggering about. The ML5's is 20mm, I presume the BE4 uses the same switch.

Get the front in the air as high as you're comfortable with, the drain plug seems to be on the bottom of the diff housing (just like the ML5). You'll need 1.9 litres of finest 75W-80W, so get 2 litre bottles and decant off 100ml from one of them so you don't have to worry when you're filling it.

Hmm, no gearbox oil change how too, I can do one for the ML5 (I think, using my pics & mjb's clutch change pictures perhaps) but no-one's done anything on a BE4 that I remember...

I accidentally did mine

It looks like an oil sump drain plug, but on the gearbox. It points straight down. Drain this, then as said a 20mm plug on top of the gearbox, remove, funnel in 1.9 litres of fresh gearbox oil.

Gears move a little more sweetly, but it is still a bugger to get into reverse sometimes.

Has anyone got a picture/photo of the air breather or reversing switch so I can see where to fill the gearbox from. My car is a Peugeot 406hdi 2003 110bhp rapier and I cannot find the whereabouts of the filler level plug :( :(

Please help anyone who has done this particular job before, also does it take 1.8, 1.2 or 2ltrs of oil

:?:

You fill the gearbox from a plastic breather on top of the gearbox...the plastic breather looks like a big nut..pull off the top of the plug or unscrew it completely.
The reverse light switch is also on top of the gearbox...with the airbox removed you cannot miss either of these.
You need 2.0 litres of 75w80 for a HDI if the oil was drained completely.
I did a gearbox oil change this morning.
The drain plug is an 8mm square or an 8mm allen screw.
