Hi ive just bought 2000 406 coupe 82,000 on the clock, first peugeot,its a beatiful car full leather air con the lot,luv it,except its running like crap,no power at all,when the car is driving along at 60mph the revs ar up over 3000 rpm,is this normal??,really want to sort this car out,when buying it i new it was down on power,just taught it needed a good service and driving as the car wasnt getting much use,but that didnt make a differance,any help be great thanks.

Is it smoking at all? May be worth doing a compression test, timing out by a tooth maybe?
It could also be fueling or one of the sensors, I doubt the cat would have collapsed but you never know.

Howya doin thanks for the repley,well just done t belt on her,shud of being more clear,but theres no differance before and after,so its not that,exhaust is blowing at backbox and centre pipe,(not near cat) and not that bad so douth its that??do u tink i shud do a compression test maybe or check the fueling on her,??ive never worked on peugeots b4,and theres alot of scratching the head goin on?

I'd do a compression test for good measure, you don't know how the car was treated previously. I hope the HG is ok at any rate!What's the running temp? Any crap in the oil filler?

Hello again,taught id let u know the progress on the coupe,done the compression test,all good,changed the exaust,new spark plugs,cars running much better,theres a bit of life in her again,still not 100% tho,its a bit jumpy when first starting and shes missing a bit while driving,maybe a fuel flitter,or sensor a bit ropy,well as that,speedo starts droping to zero wile driving and then just works again out of no were???any help be great

has the engine management light been on at all ?

what about spark plug leads ?

Howya,ye could be the leads worth a try,do u rekon it cud be a fuel fillter by an chance?
