MOT Result & Fault

Post by johnboy »

Hi all,

Ok i had my mot today and although it failed i am really happy!!

It only failed on the ball joint which i didnt get chance to have done, garage quoted me £105 but no way am i paying that so its booked it at another garage monday to have it replaced and then taken back for a retest.

As some of you know i replaced the EGR Valve as it was bringing up the engine management and anti pollution messages. I had a new com2000 unit fitted also this morning and they wiped the 14 codes away and all was fine............untill driving back from one of the garages suprise up comes the 2 warnings again and car gets into its limp mode.....HOW MAD AM I????

My question now is.... if it wasnt the EGR what would the anti pollution etc be?? im lost!! The car passed emissions though this time on mot so it probably did need doing although im thinking there is also something else that is causing this problem.
I notice on the butterfly (throttle unit) there is a sensor with a orange prob on it which im guessing is like a MAF? just wondering if this is what could b causing it? But then anti pollution tends to head towards the cat or o2 sensors maybe? or even the air filter?

It only appears to goto limp mode while giving the car abit of welly (Did it to me on the motorway... wasnt fun!) At normal town speeds it seems ok?

Can someone pleeeeasssee help i feel im getting nowhere with this car and its heartbraking throwing all this money at it. :(

if its not the com its got to be the things sending the info to it.
so check air filter first as its cheap and easy to replace

yeah the com was only replaced as it failed mot before due to slack indicator arm, thats not the problem its the engine anti pollution and EML i need to sort out really and the fact its goin into limp mode.

Im gunna get a new air filter tommorow and see what difference it makes.

It could be your dpf (diesel particulate filter) after the cat, is clogged up or at least partly blocked. It would still pass an emissions test but the ecu wouldnt be happy hence the message?

Its like a flat disc with holes in, mounted in a square-ish sandwich plate, and gets the crap burnt off with fuel every so often (supposedly lol) but eventually blocks up after a while.

I don't think HPis came with dpfs, no diesel you see. Unless it's a ppf... :P

Looks like it's got loads of sensors on the exhaust though, did you get the latest codes read?

Sell a kidney and keep changing parts until it clears? Hopefully now all the other (probably spurious) codes have been cleared any new codes will be more to the point.

Yes thats what im thinking, whatever has come up now must be more direct to the problem. Just hope its not too costly whatever it is, otherwise i will have no body parts left to sell lol.

I had to have a temperature sensor replaced for the old antipollution fault last year, have a look at this. But it could be anything

Get the codes read fella

Hi Dai,

Did yours go into limp mode from that downstream sensor? mine seems to be doing it when your on main roads where you have to accelerate more or like up a hill or instance. :(

Ill get the codes read and see what it comes back with.

Is it true that sensor is plugged in under the hand brake area? if so i may check this as someones been under there before as its all loose!!! :x
