2.2 sri decat - worth it with a stainless system

Post by no2lurch »

been to have my exhaust repaired and spoke about going stainless the next time i get a blow.

he said for 80 quid extra i could have a decat pipe fitted and they would swap the pipe for the cat pipe every year for the mot.

my question is, would a decat be worth it performance wise?

I decatted my Honda VTEC and found a sharper throttle response and better top end; this car was a 1993 import and kinda borderline needing a CAT anyway. In fact I had no choice as I burnt out the original CAT when the Dizzy failed

Noise wise some cars will make a really strange raspy sound and others (like the Honda) made no difference. At the end of the day it's a filter in your exhaust so removing it will remove the restriction.

You can't do it if you've got a lambda sensor before AND after the CAT as far as I know cos it will affect the running (it can no longer compare the 2 readings properly).

Also be carefull as once you remove the CAT the exhaust will smell a lot different this may attract the attention of traffic police? not sure if that's a problem? also are they still doing road side random emissions testing? I know they were a while back - this could be awkward.

I think sports CAT's are popular for all the reasons above :|

i had a mate who but a decat pipe on a vauxhall and as said it was quicker, but he had to get it retuned as it used more fuel.
