As with nearly every other 406 HDI, the engine cover mounts and clips on mine are broken, currently cable ties are doing the job but I want something a bit tidier. I saw these on Ebay, wondered if anyone else had tried them?

Those are standard Renault exhaust mountings, the ones I've been advising people to fit, the only difference is they sell you wing nuts instead of ordinary 6mm nuts and flat washers.
You can buy these from factors or exhaust fitters.

ive got the same problem, if you look through old threads on here, someone suggests using renault exhausts mounts, i think they look very similar to the picture you have shown but are considerably cheaper than the ebay price.

ive just been down to a motor spares place today and although i probs paid a little bit though the nose for them i got 4 for £9. When i next go out i will drop by the b&q's just down the road from me and pick up some M6 wing nuts as they are only £1.38 there. You might as well do that too.

If it were me, i'd be on the look out for some anodised thumb nuts, so looks a bit more professional

6mm nuts and penny washers do the job nicely, solid as a rock and have never had to replace any of the rubber mountings.

hi, just got the exhaust mounts delivered and they are too big thread wise, does anyone know what renault the 6mm mounts are off?

The ones off eBay dont fit or the ones your bought else where dont fit?

That sounds like the only ones I could get hold of here, way too big

The ones I use are off the old Renault 5, a really old 80's motor.
Strangely enough, I just bought some this morning, I'm off now to fix a Nissan Micra gearchange mounting using these.
If you can't find any, let me know and i'll send you some.

Hi, yeah i bought some of a renault 21 from a motorfactors but they had to bigger thread.

Somebody else on ebay is selling the ones i need (just the exhaust mount no wing nut etc) and as jasper says they are made to fit Renault 5's plus renault 4's and 6's Just about to buy them this second. Just Type in Renault exhaust mounts and a guy selling historic car parts is selling them.

With postage they work out to a tenner. Might be able to get them somewhere else bit cheaper but after going to two different motorfactors and neither being able to get them in i cant be bothered to hunt anymore for the sake of a couple of quid. Then i will get some wing nuts for £1.38 from B&Q's
