Hi,

Ive just bought a 406 glx hdi 110, its 2002 with 112,000 miles full peugeot history and owned by peugeot for its whole life!!

Soz for my lack of technicality as im not mechanically minded.

Ive got a few problems i want to get sorted asap so dealer can do it. When pulling away in 1st gear i get quite a loud noise kind of like something slipping?!? not to sure how to describe, it only does it when engine is cold, but if i rev the engine it doesnt do it only when pulling away using clutch... could it be clutch and DMF?

Also i cant get air out of all the vents inside the car, i cant feel nething coming thru footwell or the right vent in the centre block?

Just one last thing... when lights come on automatically is it normal for them to turn themselves off when i switch the front fogs on as its a bit dodgy when driving in the dark and fog lol...

Soz for long post hopefully you guys can help me out

Cheers
Phill

If it is, then a failing DMF will produce a squeeking/chattering noise as the clutch engages/disengages - you should be able to reproduce the noise in 2nd and 3rd gears at low speed by opening your window and listenening for the squeeking/chattering as you bring the clutch in and out sharply. The clutch will also slip but only when really hot after an hour or so and mainly in 5th gear from about 1800 revs (max torque).

Air not coming out of the vents sounds like a stuck directional flap in the fans air ducting behind the dash (not nice to find that one) - the car has probably been left in the same ventilation setting for years and is either stuck or has a faulty motorised mechanism on one of the flaps.

Don't know about the auto lights but someone else will.

hi welly, thanks for reply,

the car doesnt make any unusual noises doing wat u said just a few times when engine is cold and bringing clutch out when in 1st to pull away,so possibly not DMF. Il get a garage to have a listen somehow as by the time it gets thier engine will be upto temp lol.

i think il leave air vents as they are as its not a big deal really.

thanks
phill :D

Any resolution on this Phil?

I have noticed the past week the same thing. Happens when engine is cold, usually only when pulling away in first on slight brae at top of my road. Happened when sitting on slight brae at traffic lights too. Sounds like a belt slipping/drone type thing.

In addition, I am having a heck of a bother getting 5th gear, 9/10 times I just can not get it in
