They are pretty much the most reliable engine ever. No MAFs, High Pressure fuel pumps or common rail injectors to worry about. And it doesnt have the awkwardness of the V6 either....or the power

The funny thing with the car is that even when fully loaded, ( 5 people and 5 kayaks on the roof), approx 200miles only cost 20quid, though that was in the days when petrol was sub £1/litre.
When I first got it i was doing well to get 300 out of a tank, which would imply that it's more down to my right foot than anything else, but the car always seems happier sitting at 80 on the Mway, or maybe that's just me
When i filled up last week she got a dose of redex for the first time since i've had it so we'll see if that makes any difference.
Tyres are always at 32-34PSI iirc, must have a nosey into retrofitting the trip computer, always enjoy the games you can play on long journeys to keep yourself entertained... :P

Tell you what mate, buy my 1.9. It's reliable and massively economical, and then I can invest the proceeds in a V6 to call my own ^_^

By awkwardness I just mean that they're difficult to work on cos they're practically shoehorned into the engine bay

Nah, it's just the bloody exhaust manifold getting in the way of the bloody driveshaft bearing nuts...

In fact I'm actually looking forward to changing my dad's tubby's intercooler LESS than I am changing my V6's PAS pump and high pressure pipe! (but looking forward to servicing the Golf much, much less than either of those!)

Does the 2.1 have an intercooler like the 1.9 turbos?
