sump gasket
hope someone can held i have a 96 td oil leaking from back of sump do you need to remove gear box to takeoff the sump and if so how difficult is it

HI,
I had this problem last year.
You can do the sump gasket with the gearbox in situ...I believe its a siliconed typestuff sealant that is used.
Check also the sealing ring behind the oil filter housing as these go also, with the oil consequently running down to the front of the sump. Handy to see and do whilst you've got the sump empty.
I got the garage to do this messy job on ramps.

good that will save me a few bob it is a sillicon gasket so will have fun when i do it at the weekend
