REAR BRAKE PAD PROBLEM!

Post by marco2002 »

Hi Everyone

Bought a new set of rear disc pads for the 406 hdi(110). Fitted them last night. All seemed fine. Anyway today i noticed that the n/s rear disc was a lot hotter than it should be. Also it felt like it was binding on that side. Came home from work this afternoon and stripped it all to bits to have a look. The new pads were quite a tight fit when i fitted them yesterday and had to use a bit of emery paper to fit them in. The problem is when you put the new pads in the disc hardly moves and is binding. The discs/pads should rub slightly but not bind. Had a go at pushing the piston back as well seems to go back no bother. When i put the old pads back in there seems to be no problem with the discs/pads binding. I guess it has something to do with the size/thickness of the new pads? I was thinking it could be something to do with the caliper but i am not so sure?

Someone i know suggested taking the shims out. I tried it but it still binds!

The pads came gsf.

Any hints or suggestions would be much appreciated as i don't want to go to the garage if this can be fixed easily
Thanks
