Cylinder heads

Post by Pob »

Hi all,

Would a head off a 1.9 GTi work on a 2.0 turbo engine?

Thanks,
Dan

The 205 head is alloy, whereas the 406 one is cast iron is it not? Or is that just the block?

Anyway, there's a guy on 309ownersclub.com that is building up his own turbo engine and I'm sure if you ask him nicely, he'll be able to tell you. See his topic here.

The block on a 1.9 is alloy and cast on the 2.0. The bloke in the link is turbo'in a XU104JR engine, not a 8v engine like i have

Thanks,

I was under the impression the only difference between the XU10J4R and XU10J2TE was the head and turbo

The pistons are totally different on the TE, the compression is lowered by low compression pistons. I originally thought the head was the only difference between the Turbo engine head on the NA 8V head

But will the XU10J4R and XU10J2TE blocks not be the same, i.e. oil-ways, water channels, etc? Yes, they may use different pistons, etc, but I thought the engine block was the same? Surely your biggest issue is going to be whether the oil and water ways line up, and not clearance for the pistons as there are several ways to solve that.

As far as I know yes, The head looks identical to a 1.9 head, I was wondering if the valves or squish area were the same
