Braking and MOT woes

Post by badj »

Hi all,

Wondered if anyone could shed some light on todays issue.

Basically the handbrake was crap, so I attempted to adjust the seized and rusty cable, which resulted in the thread snapping off.
Got a new cable for the N/S/R, and I took the drum off (the shoes don't look very old at all) and fitted the new cable, and tensioned it so the hand brake travels between 8-11 clicks.

When I pull the handbrake up, It has a limited amount of travel and feels tight, but I can still move the NSR drum/what would be the wheel. There is a bit of resistance but not enough for MOT standards

Any ideas on whats causing this??

Cheers in advance

Are we talking just drums here, or drum in disks?

It was drums, turned out the adjusters werent adjusting on there own, sorted it now.

Failed mot on emissions, and nearside rear lower suspension arm bush

The car seems to not want to rev over 4k rpm ish when im going along (its a 97 1.9td). It only just failed emissions but thought it might have something to do with the rev relutance. Its pretty sluggish too.

Is the bush hard to change?

Cheers ;)
