Oscillating Siemens 2.0 fixed after 4 years

Post by piglet »

I had given up on ever getting an answer on my kangarooing Hdi.
However after a 300mile round trip and a morning at Hdi-Tuning in Bristol I can report that the car is actually cured. :D

I am a bit smug because while various vehicle techs have offered me some utterly rediculous suggestions over the years I had long since believed it was shite software.
Steve at Hdi ran all the usual diagnostics while I drove, a few tweaks to no avail then tried a different software version, Bingo (Berlingo), totally different.
A few more tweaks, a St1 remap and the old girl is like a new car, also moves rather like the Starship Enterprise on a shout.

Slight downside is the Berlingo software it's now running on doesn't talk to the fuel computer, so no MPG computer. Range function still works though. :?:

Oh! That's an unexpected result and no mistake (Mrs. Miggins). I can imagine how chuffed you are to finally get somewhere.

I wonder if the MPG function needs turning on. Then maybe it's worth leaving it alone while it's going ok...

Wow. :D That's astonishing.

Makes you wonder what's different between the maps.

How much power and torque is a remap coaxing out of the Siemens 90?

Current: 407 2.2 HDi 170 & C6 2.7 HDi.
Former: 406 1.9 TD; 406 HDi 90; 407 2.2 160; 307cc 180; 508 HDi 140.

His St1 has been rolling roaded at 120 on something. St2 is 150 or other, all on his website.
I wouldn't know what it is on mine but I'm still learning not to plant it, I'm quite happy with the current clutch thank you!

The naff low end response was improved with a different throttle map but that didn't stop the oscillation, we tried 2 different software versions, both were far better than mine but in the end the Berlingo soft was the smoothest, I can live without the MPG.

Good news. :D

I've no relevant experience of HDi 90's, but by a country mile the biggest single improvement you can make to a 2.2 is blanking the EGR - completely transforms the low speed response. (Not really surprising that allowing some oxygen in helps combustion).
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Am i right in thinking that you just fit the plate, no ECU changes required?

Correct.
It will generate an intermittent fault saying there is too much air flow or words to that effect, but it won't light the EML or go into limp mode.

That was my experience with my 90.

Just pull (and bung) the vacuum supply to the control solenoid valve.

Funny enough the EGR made little difference to mine,, on the old software that is.
and I'm not about to reconnect it now!
