svo on 2.1 cars

Post by RN55ONE »

can i put svo into any 406 2.1?
or do the 2.1 come with different fuel pumps (bit like the 106)?

I'm looking for a 106, 306, or 406 that I can run svo in.
if anyone knows of one for sale, please let me know.

The 2.1 has a Lucas pump etc, so unless you want to change quite a few bits over ( which has been done ) then the 1.9 is the one to go for instead.

Where are you located, as there are often a few on eBay / Gumtree etc.

located in west midlands. I look on ebay and gumtree most days. The only cars I can find in reasonable travelling distance are ones that are real bangers.
I intend to keep the car for a few years, so I nice example to start off with would be ideal.

so the 2.1td came with lucas pumps. dam it.
This was the car I was looking at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171552441012
(Granted its a Citroen, but the engine is the same, isn't it?)

You need a 2.1 from an XM for a Bosch pump. I seem to remember reading that you can use a Bosch pump from a 1.9XUD on the 2.1, I have never tried it but I'm sure it will fit.

I've done the Bosch conversion on a 406 so can give you a few pointers if you decide to get a 406. :-)

oh right. That solves that then..lol
May wait a few days, wait and see if a 306, 406 1.9 or 106 1.5 pops up with a bosch pump.

Thanks for updates

306 is a bit of a lottery unless it's a Ph1 I believe.

If you can find a 1.9 thats been looked after like my old one had it will go like a train so don't get hung up on the 2.1. If there are a few local to you have a test drive and see what you think.
Running a 1.9 on 50/50 veg mix I got 37 round town and 50/55 on a run and I have a pretty heavy right foot.
The 1.9 is also a straight forward lump to work on, even I managed it so it must be !!

2.1s are lovely engines though. Noisy by today's standards but lovely. I still think that it was quicker off the mark than my 110HDI model.

I would concur. I have run 2.1 XMs for over 15 years and they are a brilliant engine especially with the Bosch pump. My average fuel consumption rarely fell below 40mpg and would easily exceed 50mpg on a longish journey. The flexibility was the best of any diesel I have driven, they will pull smoothly from not much more than tickover, certainly smoother than the Hdi's I have now.

AFAIK all 406 1.9 XUDs have bosch pumps.
My bro ran his on about 80% wvo, with no problems barring fuel filter changes and a blocke in-tank strainer once. Really good filtration is the secret.

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Hi

I was planning on running 50% diesel 50% svo in winter.
Then in summer, 25% diesel, 75% svo.

Would this be ok on this engine?
