HELP timing a bosch diesel pump

Post by JonnyH »

Hi can anyone help me with timing the bosch diesel pump. I wondered if there was any way of doing it without using a dial meter and the adapter as the haynes manual suggests. Is there any way of doing this without these tools. Im in the middle of an engine swap and i have to swap the bosch from my old seized 406 1.9td to the good 1.9td donor that has a lucas on it. This engine came out of a 306 and Im having to swap most of the other parts. Also I wondered if I need to swap the injectors etc.
Any help and advice much appreciated

Thanks

You will need the injectors and pipe work as yours open at a different pressure to the 306 with the Lucas pump.

u may need to move studs if u r using same lucas bracket on pump
definatly fuel injectors and injector pipes
timing just use the bolt methos in flywheel pump and cam
i leave off 3 nut under pump so it makes timing it easier when u start

Thanks. i spoke to the mechanic at the dealers. he said just lock both engines at TDC and the pump in place using the bolt method and then swap the whole thing bracket and all and it should be pretty near. He said he then does it by ear if its slightly out.
