110hp Power Problem

Post by keppler »

Firstly I'd like to say hello to everyone in the forum!
I recently purchased (6 months ago) a 406 110hp RHZ saloon 2000 year. The car originally had alot of problems to begin with but with some time and money I eventually got them repaired. Lately however it has developed a problem which seems quite strange. If driving around 60mph I decide to slam on the accelerator to overtake or just pass someone on the motorway there is little or no response from the throttle, the car still speeds up but very very slowly almost like turbo is not kicking in. But everytime I press the peddle slower and more gradual, the car really accellerates and feels like it has loads of power at its disposal (the way it always felt from the day I bought it).
Has anyone here ever come accross a similiar problem before? I should say, there was a leak in the intercooler rad but I got a replacement and fitted it yesterday. This made a noticeable improvement in accelleration through the low gears 0-30 mph as it was slightly rough and vibrating before i changed it. However it made absolutely no difference to the power problem. When changing the rad I checked the pipes from the turbo and there appear to be no leaks that I can tell.
Is there any chance that this could be a throttle assembly/sensor problem? I have squeezed the intake pipe from the intercooler and the turbo seems to be building quite alot of pressure. This is leading me to think there is no problem with the turbo (hopefully). If anyone has any ideas or simple tests I could do to diagnose the problem I would much appreciate their help.
Also the egr vacuum solenoid is malfunctioning and has been for a while, but I dont think this would be the problem as the vacuum pipe is disconnected from the egr valve.

Just updating for those who may have a similiar problem.........I unplugged the maf sensor and (surprisingly) no engine management light came on and power is completely back to normal.
