I plan to now change the gearbox oil on my 2.2 petrol at the weekend as my car jumps out of reverse from time to time.
The car finds all other gears fine, no problems.
while i'm under the car doing the oil, what else can i bee looking out for?

Re: 2.2 petrol jumpin gout of reverse
If you're draining the gearbox oil anyway have a good look at the bottom mount, if it needs changing you'll need to drain the gearbox so it's 2 birds with 1 stone.

Jumping out of gear is nothing to do with the oil, it will more likely be excess engine movement pulling at the gear-change mechanism, or even the mounting for the gearbox itself.

Re: 2.2 petrol jumpin gout of reverse
The favourite is the rear lower mount, on the HDi's the torque of the engine tears through the rubber over time and allows this movement but there is another one under? the gearbox I think. The power of the 2.2 petrol is likely to have the same kind of effect I think.
What you could try is opening the bonnet and carefully letting the clutch out (handbrake mega-on) whilst watching the engine movement - if it rocks about quite a lot then the mounts are worn.
Not saying this is deffo the problem but it's not the oil, the gear linkages are being pulled on by something I think.

the engine doent rock about on idle but does seem to pull backwards when the handbrake is on and you try to reverse.
