Just wondered if anyone can beat this for a fuel gauge reading, I reset my trip counter religiously when I fill up, always letting the pump click off. A couple of days ago the trip ticked over the 200 mile mark, I checked the fuel gauge and it was bang on 3/4 of a tank. Now she's just been serviced so I was pleasantly surprised but not too shocked as I've been very gentle with my right foot since the icey weather hit us.
However a quick glance this morning and the needle is sitting on the 1/2 tank mark so of course i checked to see the mileage and guess what........ 228 miles!!!!! 28 miles on 1/4 tank or 3 1/2 gallons of fuel.
Can anyone beat that for a ridiculously inaccurate fuel Gauge ?

Re: The most ridiculous fuel gauge ?
There are those who have experienced a fuel gauge that sits at 100% and doesn't move, and those who have experienced a fuel gauge that sits at 0% and doesn't move...
I belong to neither camp (with either of my 406s) as they've both been wonderfully reliable, dashboard-wise (touch wood)

Mine used to bounce around from full to empty and anywhere in between somehow it went right on its own

Mine gradually drops to empty, then I get half a tank I guess that gradually drops to zero too but I've usually chickened out and filled up by then.

Re: The most ridiculous fuel gauge ?
mine it reaches 1/2 very very reluctantly and for half a tank mark I sometimes get about 170 miles or so. If I do my math right, i'll be getting 340 miles! for a full tank in heavy stop-go traffic in short trips (usually 16 km one way). But to burst my bubble, needle starts moving very aggressively towards empty, after the 1/2 tank mark and I end up getting 240~260 miles.
Conclusion is, movement of the needle is not even and not at the same rate throughout the scale, at least in my case.

Re: The most ridiculous fuel gauge ?
if i stick £15 in mine from empty it shows a 1/4 tank.
it also shows a 1/4 tank if i shove up to £35 in
£40 shows a half tank, after that, fairly progressive.
