Putting a clutch together

Ive taken a clutch off an engine, it was very easy, now though i hear it needs aligned if i go to put it back on, how do i do that. This is not on a peugeot engine.

Can you make up a mandrel for it?

It's basically a rod that fits into the spigot bearing (in the end of the crankshaft) and has a wider part that fits into the clutch disk. You loosely assemble the clutch and cover to the flywheel, then use this tool to push the disk into the centre, then tighten the bolts. The best one is a spare gearbox input shaft, or you can buy them, either specifically for your motah or with adaptors for various cars. Or you can use the handle off your socket wrench (or something similar) wrapped with insulating tape (if it's small enough to fit into the spigot bearing).

Actually, if you use the wear marks on the flywheel it's sometimes possible to do it by eye.

can i use a flywheel twice its fairly shiny where the clutch was, or should i just change it now the engine and all is out.

If it's not a DMF it should last the life of the rest of the engine.

nope its a solid flywheel, ive to move it from the 1.3 engine and put it onto the 1.6. What about paddle clutches are they bull or a good job.

I don't really think they're what you need. You sure the flywheel will fit?

nope, but thats what it says on ghostown, or suzuki club. It also says i need an adaptor plate no biggie.

stick your finger in the whole, wiggle it around, then tighten the nuts.

never failed for me and i've done at least 50 clutches, on various different cars.

just use the flywheel u have, and forget about padle clutches for on the road.

On any engine (except with DMF, these have a loose centre and are tricky to line up using my method), fit the clutch onto the flywheel and loosly fit the bolts...finger tight....look at the edge of the spinner plate in relation to the pressure plate (set it even all the way round), tighten the bolts up a bit and check again the position in relation to the edge, then tighten evenly all round, do a final check and your done.

Look at it as having 2 circles both the same size, you are trying to fit the 2 circles together without any overhang, ie so that they become one circle, I hope you understand that.
Failing that, get a cheap alignment tool which will allow you to line up the 2 plates and lock them together to fit the clutch accurately. http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165469
