And so the saga continues,
Collected the new air flow thingy but noticed that it was slightly different inside, the two fine wire bits looked the same but the bit at the bottom with the bobble on top was shorter and came out horizontally, the original came out horizontally then pointed up at an angle towards the fine wire bits. pointed this out to the chap behind the counter but he reckoned that was not too important, he said the important bit was up behind the flat rectangular piece of metal, ok said I and off I went.
Fitted it on tonight, car started fine but engine management light on again and still Antipollution fault lit up, took it for a spin, the excessive smoke has gone and so has the tapping chattering noise but car running in safe mode again.
If the new piece I fitted is correct do I have to reset the engine management?

Sometimes, the car has to complete 3 - 5 'journeys' without a fault being present in order for it to reset - I would drive it for a few days & see what happens
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Ok, thanks that, I'll see what it's like in a few days then.

Car running ok now, no faults showing and running out of limp mode :cheesy:
just a bit of smoke when pulling hard in higher rev's, maybe a drop of fuel addative will help out there.

Big thanks for all the advice recieved.
