Front strut bearing replacement

Hi,

Small question: one of the front strut bearings has seized. To save a few bucks, is it possible to replace just the bearing itself? Or is it better to simply replace the whole set?

I'm crossing my finger for you too! I remember reading somewhere that, for right-hand drive models, replacing the master cylinder is an engine-out job?

I hope not!

As for the hand brakes: my experience is to that the adjustment weel (a toothed wheel that can be rotated through a small hole in the drum) must be tightened to the point where the drum is just not binding. So: tighten until it binds, then slacken only just enough to be able to turn the drum again b...

Hi Julia, Is it smelling like exhaust? Or like "fresh" diesel fuel? If you can't tell the difference, ask some-one else to smell with you as soon as it happens. HANDBRAKE is very poor, needs yanking up to very top Handbrakes are the rear drum brakes (the rear disk brakes are for the normal foot brea...

Re: What to do with my 406 estate (7 seater)?

The problem is that I am sentimental (my children have grown up with this car) and I do not want to scrap it if it can be repaired or re-used elsewhere. So my question is, what shall I do with my lovely, old car? I feel with you :( With 4 growing up kids, these 7-seaters are perfect. It has brought...

Re: Air Bag Warning Light!

By chance, the same happened to me yesterday. After a short stop, the air bag light went on and there was a message on the MFD. Found this topic on the forum, so dived under the front seats to find that the yellow-orange plug of the passenger seat was unplugged. Put it back in and after a few engine...

Re: Power Steering Failing

Could it be the steering wheel angle sensor? I think that is inside the COM2000 unit (just behind the steering wheel).

Re: Car key

Cool, congrats!

Did you get the remote control function back to working? Which PCB(s) did you get for that to work? I read everywhere that a PCB must match the transponder chip.

Here is an example of a boost pressure fault:

Re: Air Doser Delete

"boost solenoid fault" sounds like an electrical issue. The engine ECU will be able to see if the boost solenoid is actually (electrically) connected. If the boost pressure is too high or too low (due to e.g. leaking vacuum), this will give an fault code indicating a problem with the boost pressure .

Re: Air Doser Delete

Can you confirm what engine you have? Not sure who you are asking, but I have a 2.0 HDI, same as the Grand Vitara (see "Power train" in the right panel of this wikipedia page ). I've never experienced any boost loss with my air doser unplugged. But indeed, replacing it by a straight intake pipe wou...

Re: Power steering fluid

I've had to top it up once; I used Total Fluide At42 ATF, as mentioned in the user manual on page 25.

I'm not sure how many litres are needed to fill up completely, but I guess it wouldn't be more than 2. Haynes doesn't mention it... :frown:
