Re: 2.0 HDI 110 starting problem
I checked it over and it seemed okay. When I visited diagnostics then he said that common rail pressure is okay with low and high RPM. And therefore he thought that HP pump pressure regulator should be okay. That's OK when the engine is not under load but when it is it demands a much greater fuel f...

Re: Burning Clutch Smell
Riding the clutch normally would make it smell, are you sure you are not doing it more than you used to? If you are using 1st gear I wouldn't have thought you would need to especially if you have a diesel as it will pull almost from tickover.

Re: 2.0 HDI 110 starting problem
I had a problem with starting mine when hot and it turned out to be the pressure regulator on the HP pump, it has a filter which clogs and its almost impossible to clear it. Its held on to the pump with two screws, maybe torx or allen type.

How come 18 volts doesn't destroy the electrics on the car?

Re: gearbox crunch
Failing that the 3rd gear synchro is worn and would cost more than the car is worth so I would live with it.

Re: What Turbo?
Had a look on ebay, dozens of 2.0. Hdi turbo's but no petrol ones. I would think that there would be a good starting place, either from some of the turbo suppliers or under 'spares or repair' headings for a secondhand one.

Re: whats it worth?
Look on ebay and see what they are selling for - not what they are asking but what they actually make, that's the only way you will get a 'real world' price.

Re: 2.1td, boost adjustable?
Presumably that would be an electronic Bosch pump, mine were all mechanical.

Re: 2.1td, boost adjustable?
The Bosch pump is easy to uprate, there is a screw and locknut on the back of the pump where the injection pipes come out, turning the screw clockwise I think will increase the fuel, it only need moving a small amount. The lucas one is not so easy and as I have only had Bosch pumps on the XMs I have...

Congratulations on your result. Times have changed, I started work in 1954 as a TV engineer, electrical work was just part of what we did, no qualifications needed, I still do my own but not allowed to do anyone else's. There were few rules and regulations in those days and everything was wired in V...
